The original Alienware chassis. So cool in a super nerdy way. I wanted one growing up, especially when four-way SLI was a thing. Fortunately, I lacked the money to make such a terrible decision.
Still, what I wouldn’t give for that case.

Hmm, can’t say those were ever to my taste. I don’t remember exactly when those were a thing, but I was probably using an Antec P180 case:
If it was too early for that, I would have had an Antec Performance Plus like this:
Not quite as pretty too be sure. I did put a glowing blue fan in the side fan, so I can’t claim I’m completely immune to dubious tastes.

I think they sold the P2 chassis on its own. Probably was $200 (edit: $400 holy smokes) back then, good luck finding one now.

back about 2002-2003 I had one of these:
they had pretty cases and cute sounds, but goddamn were they overpriced garbage. Their MIPS CPU could be handed its ass by anything Intel or AMD were making, and while the system architecture (XIO) was novel it was only important to a narrow niche of use cases.

I was waiting for someone to post an SGI workstation, their styling was always on point.
I used a 1600SW monitor for awhile in the ‘00s, thing was built like a tank, just like their cases. Solid steel frame with a plastic covering.

We had this tower when I was a kid, always wished we had the matching monitor and speakers.

I have an old Voodoo Blackbird 002 case sitting in my basement. I believe it’s set up for water cooling as well. Despite my love of big computer cases, this one is just too big for me. I picked it up for 50 cents and need to find a buyer for it. There’s one available on eBay for $1,900 OBO, but somehow I don’t think it’s going to sell for that kind of money. What is a realistic price? I dunno...

I remember reading PC World magazine And oogling over the SGI advertisements.

Width 10.5 in

Height 23.6 in
Weight? 672 metric tons. It’s a beast

It was the basis of a killer machine back in the day. It could still make for a monster system these days, but my priorities for a desktop are different from what a hardcore gamer wants.

I did some Alienware server stuff back in 2003/4, then we designed alienware 2.0 and 3.0 at Design Edge. They were great projects, we won a 12-firm bakeoff and they gave us everything. The laptop actually started as an XPS gaming thing, but after Dell bought Alienware, it got moved over.

Adam Barry (ex-Ford, then at Astro in SF) designed the alien-head case. Great guy, and one of my sketch heroes. He was one of the designers of the Mercury MC4.

Also, that case is fucking HUGE.
